Narconon Vs. 12 Step

Part Two

Part two deals with comparing alcoholism, narcotics addiction, Narconon and Twelve Steps.

The main difference between the Narconon Program and the Twelve Step program is that Narconon deals with the physical aspect of addiction and the Twelve Steps do not. There are other differences as well, but this is one of the main reasons that Narconon works so well for a narcotics addict and why narcotics addicts have such a hard time with the Twelve Steps.

Alcohol is a water soluble substance. This means that after a person drinks alcohol eventually all of that alcohol will be flushed out of the system within a matter of hours to days. Narcotics are not this way. After a person uses narcotics, they can remain stored in the fatty tissue for years afterward. This will continue to affect the person mentally for a very long time and give them actual physical cravings. Alcoholics suffer from physical cravings as well but the reasons are different.

An alcoholics body becomes dependent upon the alcohol to function in a similar way as a heroin addicts body gets dependent upon heroin. The difference is that once a heroin addict quits using heroin they can suffer mild withdrawal symptoms for years afterwards. Once an alcoholic finishes their withdrawal it is over and unless they drink again they will just start to feel better and better physically.

Narconon Addresses the Physical Aspect of Addiction.

Narconon helps narcotic addicts in a way that twelve steps does not and it is one of the reasons that Narconon works so well. When someone uses drugs for a period of time these drugs become accumulated in the fatty tissues and tiny bits of them are released whenever the person burns up their fat. Some of these drugs go back up into the brain and cause the person to crave and it also alters the way that the person thinks and their decision making skills. When a person goes to Narconon, in most cases they participate in the Narconon Detox Program. This is a program that uses a regimen of vitamins, mineral, exercise, sweating in a sauna, and a specific blend of oils that forces the body to release its old fatty stores in exchange for new fat. When the old fat is released, it also releases all the toxins and drug residuals that are stored there. Because of this, the person will not suffer from physical cravings once they are finished with the detox program.

The Narconon New Life Detoxification program is very beneficial for alcoholics as well, but for a different reason. Alcohol is not stored in a person’s fatty tissue because it is water soluble. However, over time a persons liver function will become impaired due to the over consumption of alcohol. Other toxins, some from food and other sources, are stored in the alcoholics body and cause the person to feel really terrible. The Narconon Detox program has also been proven to improve liver function markedly over the next year following the program. Alcoholics usually have extreme vitamin deficiencies so the large amount of vitamins that they take during the detox program will make them feel much better as does the improvement in their liver function. In this way it does help the alcoholics body not crave alcohol as much because one of the reasons that an alcoholic physically craves alcohol is due to vitamin decencies.

The rest of the Narconon program works on the person regaining needed abilities to cope with life that they may have never had or lost due to their addiction. One very main part of this regaining of abilities consists of the person coming to terms with all their past misdeeds and making amends for these deeds. In a way it is similar to the personal inventory that a person does in AA.

 Narconon is Not Religious

Narconon is not a religious program in any way. It does encourage spirituality but it does not enforce it because it is a non-profit organization. One of the requirements for AA is for the person to surrender themselves to a higher power. This has been proven to be very effective for alcoholics. Also the constant support of the group has proven to be very beneficial to them.

Narconon is good for those people who wish to take more control over their own sobriety. Narconon teaches the person the skills that they need to live without drugs or alcohol and without a groups support. Narconon is a much more individualized program that concentrates more on the person taking responsibility for their own actions and taking responsibility for their own sobriety.

When a person finishes the Narconon program, sometimes they may feel they would like to go to twelve step programs for continued support. This is not discouraged and some people really need the group support to stay sober.

In actuality Narconon and the Twelve Steps do not contradict each other. In some cases a person may find that they do very well combining the two. Each program has a different aspect of recovery offered. It is proven for those people who are strictly narcotics addicts, that in the long run Narconon will provide more relief for the physical aspect of their addiction.

Narconon drug rehab centers are located all over the world. Narconon is also very heavily involved in the drug education movement. Narconon feels that prevention to drug and alcohol addiction is a very important key to successfully ridding the world of addiction.

There are many twelve step groups available for individuals as well. There are also twelve steps programs available for minors in some areas. Twelve Steps has helped many, many people come off of alcohol and some off of Narcotics.

Narconon has helped many people come off of Narcotics and it also helps alcoholics get sober as well.

It is recommended for anyone who is suffering from addiction to find treatment, whether it is from Narconon or a twelve steps program.
