Tommy Quits Selling Fish
After getting a divorce from his wife and moving into a new home, Tommy continued to excel in his fish selling business. He got to the point where his business was running like a machine and he no longer was trying to make it. He was established. His company began to enjoy such success that he soon was running the top fresh fish company for sushi in the city where he lived. The competition noticed him and did not like it.
However, Tommy was starting to get tired. He was tired of picking up all the fish and loading into onto his truck. He was tired of having to make runs to the fish market at five o’clock in the morning to pick out the best pieces of fish. He was enjoying all the money that he was making, but it was wearing him out to make it.
When the largest commercial fresh fish company offered to buy his company and all the connections that went along with it, Tommy agreed. He knew he was being bought out for a small price, but the company promised him a top office job in the company as well. He agreed to the change in scenery and soon packed his bags and moved to the company’s headquarters.
New Job Doesn’t Work Out
The companies head quarters were located in South Florida. Tommy found an apartment there and moved in. He started his job and did the best that he could. He got along with his fellow employees pretty well and for the most part liked his new job. However, pretty soon it became apparent that the job was not going to last. The company did not give Tommy all that much to do and some days would send him home saying that there was nothing that they needed him to take care of. Tommy was right in thinking that they were not serious about keeping him employed. After working there for about a month or two, they let him go and told him that he had been a good employee, but they just did not have enough work for him to do. Tommy thinks that they never intended on keeping him on for long. They just offered him a job so he would be more willing to sell his company was the way he looked at the situation.
Tommy decided that since he had already moved, he might as well make the best out of the situation. He had moved during tourist season and wondered if there where any jobs available working as a fishing guide in the area. Tommy was a very good fisherman and he figured that he would be a good guide. He also thought that since fishing was his favorite thing in the world to do, it would make for a great job.
Tommy was correct about the fact that he would make a good guide. He was a great guide and for a while made a lot of money doing it. However when he would take people out on his boat as a guide, he did not really get chances to fish himself. He was just helping other people fish. Watching, Tommy found out, was not as fun as doing.
Tommy’s Drinking Gets Bad
When Tommy had gotten a divorce, he started drinking more. When he sold his business, he started drinking everyday. It got to the point where by five o’clock he really needed a drink. When he started guiding the tours in his boat, he would drink whenever he did not have a tour, and sometimes when he did. It finally got to the point where his drinking was really out of control.
Tommy started to get depressed and it got to the point where he did not really know what to do. He did not like the job he was doing and he did not have many friends in the new location where he had moved. He decided that it was time for a change.
He decided that he was going to quit drinking and he was going to find a different job where he could meet other people.
Tommy Gets a New Job
Tommy did exactly what he set out to do. He quit drinking and once he had been sober for a few weeks, he went job hunting. He lost most of his money when he sold his business and pretty soon he decided that he would need to move as well. He ended up deciding to buy a used trailer and moved to a trailer park. He wanted someplace where the rent would be cheap and he didn’t want to have to move all of his stuff if he decided to change locations. Plus, his kids were still living with their mother and he would only see them when he went back to his home town for a visit. He could afford to live in a trailer with out having to answer to anybody about it.
Tommy’s job hunt turned out to be successful after a while as well. He got a job in a local factory near where he lived. Even though working in factory did not pay as well as the other jobs he had before, he was really glad to be working around other people again.
Unfortunately the type of people who worked in the factory ended up being a really bad influence on Tommy’s life. The other folks that were Tommy’s coworkers were really into partying and it wasn’t long before Tommy was partying right there along with them. Continued in Part Four
