Heroin Addiction
This is chapter six in the story of a addict we are calling Tessa. Her real name is not used to protect her privacy. Tessa was addicted to heroin. This is the story of her battle with addiction and about how she went to a Narconon treatment center and ultimately got clean.
Last we heard of her, Tessa had gone to a drug rehab in Hawaii that was very strict. Tessa said that although the rules and the consequences of breaking these rules were very harsh, it in the long run was very good for her to go to. She said that she had never really been held accountable before and to finally have steady discipline in her life really helped her to grow up. Before, she had never really had to answer to anyone, or at least to the degree that she had to at the program in Hawaii. Before she had kind of done whatever it was she had wanted and now she had whole group looking out for her that was a self policing unit. She said she really matured during this program, even though at times she hated to be there.
Tessa Breaks the Rules
After about ten to twelve months of being in the rehab, Tessa made friends with one of the other patients there who was a male. He was ten years her senior and he began to look out for her. One thing led to another and before long she became romantically involved with him. She did not sleep with him while she was at the program because Tessa was still a virgin, but they did kiss and hang out a lot together.
Although Tessa and her new boyfriend tried to be discreet about their relationship, before long, the staff of the facility got wind of their relationship. Needless to say, being intimate with any other patient in the facility was against the rules. One of the directors of the program brought up the situation in front of all the other female patients in one of their nightly meetings. She was not kind to Tessa about the situation, and called her horrible names. She called her a slut and a whore and told her the only thing that she thought about was sex. Now Tess was virgin and all of the director’s ranting began to really upset her and insult her. Tessa got to the point where she just did not want to deal with the situation anymore.
Tessa told her new boyfriend about the situation and they decided that they would leave together and go get jobs in Hawaii for a while. Tessa had been in the program for fourteen months before she and her new boyfriend decided to leave the facility.
Tessa’s Roommate Methamphetamine Dealer
Tessa and her boyfriend got an apartment together with a couple of other people that they had met in Hawaii. Tessa and her boyfriend got some jobs and supported themselves with no help from their families. Tessa and her boyfriend stayed clean and their families were very proud of how well they were doing in Hawaii. Tessa finally was functioning in real life without using heroin for the first time since she had started using it.
One day, Tessa got home from work early. She walked into her apartment only to find one of her roommates selling Methamphetamine to someone. Tessa freaked out and called her mom.
Tessa’s mom is very upset about the situation and told Tessa that she wanted her to move back to Tucson with her boyfriend. Tessa and her boyfriend decided that that was the best thing that they could do.
Tessa and her boyfriend moved to Arizona and Tessa’s boyfriend got a job working for Tessa’s dad. Tessa in the meanwhile went back and finished college. After a while Tessa started to hear from her other friends who had gone to the rehab with her in Hawaii. Tessa told them that her father had some positions available at his hotel, and if they would move to Arizona, she was sure that she would be able to get them all jobs. The whole group of friends moved to Arizona and they all started working for Tessa’s dad. In the meanwhile, Tessa graduated from college and she too started working for her father. She was making very good money for the position that she was hired for. Her boyfriend was making very good money as well. Life was pretty good.
Tessa Goes to New Jersey to Visit Old Friends
After some time passed, Tessa went to New Jersey to visit some old friends of hers that she had not seen in a while. They were the friends that she had been using heroin with, but everyone had gotten themselves clean and everyone from the old gang was doing well. As she was making the rounds she went to her friend Tommy’s house. He had always been kind of a dork and clumsy and she was surprised to see that he had turned into a very well put together young man. She was very happy to see him as he was her. She was immediately attracted to him and she could not help feeling that there was some kind of chemistry there. She decided that she was going to stay in New Jersey for the whole summer and just hang out with her old friends.
She and Tommy started spending a lot of time together. Tommy was very intelligent as was Tessa and they would stay up late in the night discussing all kinds of things. Tessa found herself attracted to Tommy in a mental aspect as well and she would compare him to her boyfriend she had left back in Tucson. Her boyfriend in Tucson was a jock and would never talk with her about philosophy or really ever have a deep conversation with Tessa. That is all she had with Tommy and she found she really enjoyed being around a man that stimulated her mentally. They never fooled around until the night she was about to leave. Even then, they only kissed briefly and held each other all night long.
